THE METHODIST RELIGION

POINTS TO REMEMBER FROM THE METHODIST CHURCH

Methodism began with John Wesley.

Joseph Paul was responsible for bringing Methodism to the Bahamas in 1786

The Methodist split fro the Anglican Religion

The five universals which is the bedrock of Methodism or the belief of the Methodist is:
a. All need to be saved
b. All can be saved
c. All can know that they are saved
d. All can be saved to the uttermost
e. All believers share in the ministry of the church

VOCABULARY WORDS RELATING TO METHODIST RELIGION

Class: Small groups or units (also called cells) within the Methodist Church that
met regularly for Bible Study and to encourage each other in the faith.

Circuit: a group of churches in one area

District: A group of circuits

Society: The name given to a local Methodist church

Autonomy: Being independent of outside control, self governed

CONTRIBUTION TO EDUCATION:

The Methodist religion has also contributed much to the education of the Bahamian society in the form of the following schools:

Queen’s College (Nassau)

St. Paul’s College (Freeport)

Susanna Wesley Pre-school (Andros)

Wesley College (Abaco)

CONTRIBUTION TO THE BAHAMIAN SOCIETY
The Bahamas Conference of Methodist adopted the Bilney Lane Children’s home in Nassau in 1992. Therefore, they assist in providing for the children.
